N. S. Neki, Ajay Chhabra, Ankur Jain

Middle East respiratory syndrome corona virus (MERS-CoV) is an emerging pathogen that causes severe respiratory disease in man. MERS-CoV is a new corona virus like SARS and has genomic similarities to other corona viruses. This respiratory virus is an emerging threat to global health security and has led to epidemics with substantial morbidity, mortality and is an economic burden on world health organizations. The virus can spread from person to person when people are touching or become very close. So people at crowded places may be at risk. Symptoms of MERS include fever, cough and shortness of breath. Most people infected with MERS have severe illness and pneumonia and about half of them die. If anyone develops fever and cough or difficulty in breathing within 14 days after returning from a trip to endemic nations, he/she must seek medical care. It can be confirmed by a positive rRT-PCR. Key words: Middle East Respiratory Syndrome corona virus; emerging pathogen.
