Aim: Methylene blue (MB)remains the most frequently used tracer for dye penetration tests of endodontic filling, despite its chemical reaction with different materials. This study checked whether dye penetration displayed  by MB is comparable to  India dye ink, 6.5% Basic fuschin,  5% Eosin.  Materials and Method:  Forty root canals were filled with gutta-percha and two sealers. Samples were covered with nail varnish except for the apical area, and immersed in dye and kept it in incubator for 48 hrs. After removing from dye, samples were washed and dried. Then Samples were sectioned vertically along with bucco-lingual direction with the help of chisel. Photographed the sectioned sample with millimeter scale under 10x magnification under stereomicroscope and maximum dye penetration recorded. Dye penetration displayed by MB, basic fuschin, eosin and ink were compared. Result: Significant higher dye penetration is seen with MB with both AH plus and Tubliseal in comparison with basic fuschin, eosin and ink. Conclusion: Methylene blue is most reliable amongst the dyes which was used to conduct the study
Key Words: Methylene blue, basic fuschin, ink, eosin, AH plus, tubliseal, dye.
