Serum uric acid levels in patients with oral cancer, leukoplakia and submucous fibrosis | |

Background: To assess the serum uric acid levels in subjects with oral cancer, leukoplakia and submucous fibrosis. Materials & Methods: A total of 40 subjects were included. They were divided as 10 in each oral cancer, oral leukoplakia, submucous fibrosis and 10 as a control group. The p- value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: A total of 40 subjects were enrolled. Average serum uric acid levels were 4.87, 3.77, 5.66, and 5.10 mg/dL for individuals with OSCC, OL, OSMF, and the control group, respectively. Conclusion: The levels of serum uric acid were decreased in individuals with OL and OSCC, while they showed an increase in those with OSMF compared to the healthy control group. |
