Background: The face is the most visible and expressive part of human anatomy and it is the face which determines our social acceptance. Changing demographics, including an increase in life expectancy and the growing numbers of elderly, has recently focused attention on the need for geriatric dental care. One of the most confusing and difficult aspects of complete denture prosthodontics is the selection of appropriately sized maxillary anterior teeth when pre- extractions records are not available. Hence the study has been taken to determine the exact relationship that exists between inner-canthal distance, inter-alar width, inter-pupillary distance and the combined width of maxillary six anterior teeth. Materials & Methods: This hospital-based prospective observational study was conducted in 40 healthy dentate subjects in the Department of Prosthodontics, Himachal Pradesh Government Dental College and Hospital, Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), India. Out of the 40 subjects, 20 (50%) were males and 20 (50%) were females. Inner-canthal distance (ICD), inter-alar width (IAW), interpupillary distance (IPD) and inter-canine width (ICnW) were measured using a digital vernier caliper. All the reulsts were analyzed by SPSS software. Results: Correlation of inter canine distance with inner-canthal distance, inter-alar width and inter-pupillary distance among overall sample showed statistically significant very strong positive relationship. Conclusion: Inner canthal, inter-alar, inter-pupillary landmarks can be used as the anatomical landmark to select the maxillary anterior teeth in the absence of the pre-extraction records.
